My FAVORITE part about quilting is getting thrifted fabrics!

I am just starting out and am confused about the backing. Are they sometimes little squares sewn together and sometimes one big sheet of fabric?

I’ll add one. Using Elmer’s glue stick for hem tape or to help keep binding on or use it to make straps when you have to fold the fabric and iron

I use clips for every sewing project, I could never go back to pins.

I've used inexpensive mattress pad toppers as batting. Just cut the stretchy sides off and you have "batting".

I use thrifted flannel flats sheets on to & on the back all the time… leftover material from people’s projects are quite often donated as well

I learned to quit only with thrift shop materials. Useing clothing, jeans are really good for quilts, really anything can be used. I'm currently making a quilt out of multiple Pj's.

Reuse whatever you can. This is what women in the past did when making quilts. I just finished my latest quilt and used a beautifully soft queen size sheet for my backing. It turned out beautiful. 🥰

Get the clips on Temu for fraction of the price you pay in sewing shops - they’re exactly the same!

Are the bed sheets not woven differently than traditional fabric you’d use for quilting? I’m new and have just finished my first topper. Looking for backing fabric this week.
