@metalmanonline: Imma need a little bit of help on this one. Tag anyone you know who may be aware of this issue and if it’s just premature cam and lifter failure or not. Next step for me is getting that VVT solenoid out and checking for metal and popping valve covers off to find excessive lash. #mechanic #ram #dodge #hemi #repair
1st issue buying a ram 2500 with a 6.4 and not a Cummins

How long did he drive on that previous oil ? …. Low key seems like he was way over due, got the engine light pulled the codes and saw camshaft and google said #1 fix is oil change so he changed oil

Yup need a new motor with that much metal on the vvt solenoid. Here at dodge we replace the motor if there is oil on the solenoid. And the issue is the cam I bet you it’s ate a lobe or 2

Check cam and crank correlation, and then ohm out the sensor, if those are good pull out the vvt solenoid under the intake for metal shavings in the front of the valley

You’d have to visually see the cams and lifters. Or use a bore scope and see if the cylinder walls are scored at all.

I’ve replaced phaser on hemi 6.4 and 5.7 for cam sensor issues intermittent on them before

I would definitely remove the intake and pull out the vvt solenoid to see if there is metal on it. the 6.4 doesn't have mds but occasionally have seen the lifters wipe out the camshaft

My recent experience, misfire only while passing a truck or heavy acceleration. Had cam shaft sensor code. Replaced cam shaft sensor with no luck. Finally pulled valve cover off to discover valve….

Pull the intake manifold and take out the vvt solenoid if there’s metal on that you definitely looking at a new motor. If not you might get away with cam and lifters
