Replying to @Katie🤗 THE PROBLEM Recent data reveals alarmingly high rates of low iron intakes, with 49% of adolescent girls and 25% of adult women falling below recommended levels. NHS statistics further reveal a 149% increase in iron deficiency hospital admissions since 2013 (NHS, 2023). With the USA revealing similar trends. IRON TABLETS -The primary treatment for iron deficiency in the UK and USA remains Ferrous sulfate (Iron tablets) (NHS, 2022). However, these tablets often lead to gastrointestinal side effects and other complications, including nausea, abdominal discomfort, and reduced zinc absorption (Tolkien et al., 2015; NHS, 2022b). In higher doses, they can even cause gastritis and gastric lesions (National Institutes of Health, 2022). THE IRON FISH -The iron fish, a well-researched alternative, effectively reduces iron deficiency and anaemia (Lucky Iron Life, 2024; Armstrong, 2017). With regular use (3x/week), it improves iron stores within 3-6 months and treats anaemia within a year. It avoids iron overload, side effects, and fulfills 40-54% of daily iron needs (14.8mg) for women aged 11-50 (NHS, 2017; Armstrong, 2017; Tolkien et al., 2015). Cost-effective and lasting up to 5 years, it also reduces environmental impact (Charles, 2015). The iron fish offers a distinct advantage over iron tablets. While tablets treat existing deficiency, the iron fish can play a preventative role as well. This is important because iron deficiency often recurs after stopping tablets - they don't address the root cause or encourage dietary/lifestyle changes that can maintain healthy iron levels in the long run. #irondeficiency #iron #ironfish #luckyironfish #stopirondeficiency #ironsupplements #irontablets #irondeficiencycheck #howtoincreaseironinbody
