My son is deaf in one ear. His 504 plan in school gave him a personal speaker so he could hear the teacher. It provided early intervention for speech and language and to teach him to self advocate.

My best friend works at a deaf school. They want to force the children to “speak” and do normal curriculum. The last time this happened, her parents were forced to learn the same way, 40 years ago 😔

I had a student with brain cancer who had a 504. Without it she would not have been able to receive the immediate support she’d need for the 3 years she had it. She would have regressed and struggled

I think there needs to be an overhaul for more support for 504 (I wasn't allowed an IEP in high school because I was "too smart" even though I'm disabled and needed a different education plan)

My 504 plan was the only reason I was listened to and accommodated in high school for my anxiety, ocd, and depression as well as chronic health issues. This is so sad.
