ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COUNSELOR ARRESTED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING STUDENTS In September of 2024, the Roseville Police Department began investigating Wonyoung Kim related to an incident with a minor at Bayside Church in Roseville, where Wonyoung Kim was a youth group leader. Sacramento County Sheriff’s Child Abuse Bureau Detectives learned of a victim within Sacramento County who had been sexually assaulted by Kim when she was a student at Charles Peck Elementary School in Carmichael, where Kim was employed as a counselor. During their investigation, Detectives learned of an additional victim who was also sexually assaulted by Kim when she was a student there. Yesterday afternoon, Detectives obtained an arrest warrant, and Kim was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau at his residence in Roseville. Kim was arrested for eight counts of PC 288(a) - Lewd acts on a child under 14 years old; and two counts of PC 288(b)(1) - Lewd acts on a child under 14 years old by force. He is currently in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he is ineligible for bail. Wonyoung Kim worked as a school counselor, and Detectives also learned he was possibly employed at several schools in southern California and a Sacramento Korean language and cultural school. Detectives are concerned there may be other unreported victims, as Kim is known to have had access to other minors through his position at work and in the community. Anyone who has potentially been a victim of Kim or any community members with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP. Tips leading to an arrest are eligible for a CASH reward of up to $1000, and tipsters remain anonymous.  Tips are paid in cash, and you are never asked for identification.  Contact Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357), 1-800-AA-CRIME, or **TIPS.  Use the “P3 TIPS” app or online at www.sacvalleycrimestoppers.com.  Tip information may also be left anonymously at www.sacsheriff.com or by calling (916) 874-TIPS (8477).
