been doing stone work for over 35 yrs. always used double building paper as moisture barrier. screws for Anchorage into wood, fasteners into block/concrete. Definitely overlap 3" on mesh. any bumps will not affect the stone work trust me. again it's just the way I did it never had a problem or call back.

Nail up the mesh ,, use angle grinder to cut off excess , move on to the nxt piece .
