As a senior and highly decorated member of 22 sas the British army's special mission unit known for covert reconnaissance counter terrorism and hostage rescue he participated in an exceptionally high number of high risk missions and was wounded in action this hard earned combat experience underpins his reputation as a renowned counter terrorism and special tactical instructor On January 15, 2019 five terrorists attacked a shopping mall in nairobi kenya he received a call from a friend that civilians were been attacked he told his friend I'm here send me in he was in the country for training he responded to the attack he did not hesitate and grabbed his 1119a2 rifle and attacked the terrorists directly he led the group that cleared each floor of an office building and a parking lot during the 20 hour battle he killed two of the five terrorists he was shot in the arm with the rifle but he continued to fight until all five terrorists were dead he also saved the lives of 150 civilians but it is estimated that more than 700 people survived this action He was later awarded the conspicuous gallantry cross (cgc) and the most excellent order of the British empire (mbe) After serving his contry for more than 28 years he retired in 2020
