@tannerfarmstead: Egg flow is seasonal for chickens. They lay heaviest in the spring, slow down in the summer heat, and slow down even more in the fall/winter during molting season. This is the natural cycle for chickens. Can you manipulate it with adding lights? Of course, but the hens need a natural rest period which is typically through fall and winter. So what do you do with all those extra eggs in the spring? You can water glass them which preserves them. You can freeze dry them. Or give some to your friends, family, and neighbors! #backyardchickens #layinghens #homestead #eggs #homesteading #pastureraisedeggs #smallscalefarming
I have had 15 chickens for 11 months. Our first egg came mid July. We have gotten 10-13 eggs everyday since.

I have a dozen hens. I keep their coop nice and cozy in the winter. They still lay pretty well in the winter- never stop. Spring / summer laying is higher, but never stop laying

It depends on the breed of hens. We had eggs every day with our girls although it was less in the winter, we did get some eggs. 🥰🥰🥰

Lots of chicken for meals in the fall. My grandmother mail ordered chickens in February or march. The mail carrier would bring them to her door(chicks). When December rolled around the coop was empty.
