There’s already a leadership shortage. There are plenty of people holding titles, but few of them are effective leaders

I think for me, the jobs need to be more appealing. I’m a middle manager and no one wants my job as it seems too stressful. I’m hugely overworked and undervalued and that’s very evident to them.

Genz here (20) and I'm a department manager and have been learning my manager's job too. I love it personally. I've only been with the company for almost four years😅 Worked my way up quick.

I've been thinking this. a team leader role tends to get a couple extra quid an hr, but you basically do the same job without managing. the increase from team leader to manager tends to be less.

where I work, if you wanna move 1 step up, they expect you to do the job on your current pay for an undefined amount of time until an opening comes up then it's between you & the 4 others...

I agree manager training is much needed. I have seen a lot of people who have been promoted then after a few months have a change of mind.

I think manager training is a must. I've been a middle manager in 2 businesses and got very little at the beginning of both. when I did operation capability training etc it became a lot easier

Middle/area managers are on the way out anyway due to the increase in min wage n the higher NI contributions for companies going up. Going to see mass redundancies for this level

No it means reward with a better wage and the resource to complete the job. People realise it's not worth it when you have to be fully flexible work all weekends and when you aren't allowed enough

gen z also don't see the point in managers because our managers are all awful - they don't help anything at all

Not worth the stress and pay does not justify all the pressure and directors don’t treat them right

Im in fintech and we're seeing a move to less middle managers and more project coordinator/agile/scrum leader type rolls. which is glorified admin really. A good employee can manage themselves.

90% of managers have 0 clue on how to manage people. there is a problem in businesses, if you want to get a higher salary, there isn't any other way. even if you know you aren't cut for it, no alterna

I just see senior management causes most of the problems as they usually don't know how things are actually run and implement things just to justify their jobs

I’m a millennial and have been a manager in a few places. The experience entirely depends on the leaders above you. If they’re bad - and they often are - its not worth doing.

They need to work on making middle management worth it, you get paid a tiny bit extra but so much extra responsibility, start paying 40k plus and you might get more people interested
