Throwback to one of my very first rescues. Tangerine was a 3 year old jenday conure that was surrendered to me in early 2021 due to aggression issues. He was frequently biting the husband and children in his previous home. The previous owner had attempted to work through it by taking away his ability to fly, but this only made things worse. Eventually, they gave up and left Tangerine caged… until he came to me. I immediately saw that he had a fear of hands and especially men. I am certain that this was due to improper handling and/or forceful handling. When a bird is not given the option to say no, they are forced to bite. The more this happens, the more trust we lose. Taking away his option to fly away from situations he didn’t like, made it worse. Never ever clip a birds wings to “tame them” or “calm them down”. Once my husband and I rebuilt the trust that was broken in his previous home, he was the most wonderful bird. Today, he lives a wonderful life with his new family where he has a sun conure brother to play with and he loves his dad. #r#rescuer#rescuesb#birdsp#parrotsjendayconure
