@keeganhasegawa: With an estimated 500 tons, 196 Billion Dollars (yes that’s the real number) worth of Kimonos sitting around in closets in Japan, the high quality garments are literally rotting away. That large number comes from the fact that Kimonos are often customized and purchased at very high price points for special occasions and afterwards, sit in closets as family heirlooms. With a decline in demand, they’re now being thrown away. But at @kimonoreborntokyo Sho-san and his team are reviving them into AMAZING high quality products. My personal favorites were the T-Shirts and Tabi shoes! Considering the fact that every item is one of one and combined with their commitment to sustainability I cannot recommend this place enough if you’re looking for unique Japanese craftsmanship!!! I love it! Although, my heart breaks a little for the loss of beautiful kimonos.

Sewers and other crafters go crazy for this kind of fabric - don’t ever throw silk kimonos away!

We should all support more business like these that recycle, re-use and/ or upcycle to reduce waste. His articles look very pretty. All the best.

But it's silk, why not make a blouse out of it instead of cotton shirt with a colorful pocket

Something that took incredible time and effort to make just tossed away is heartbreaking. I'm glad he finds a new life for them.

They rent kimonos in Japan as well. You can wear them for the day or longer, I think. Another way of saving kimonos.

The fabrics amazing but I find what they've made with it very boring. To others a fancy pocket is really out there so its just personal style sad its not mine.

Just so you know, there are Anime figures that use those Kimono scraps. Each figure is unique and quite expensive. Like 5 figures (pun intended) expensive.
