@tawnyplatis: I’m a full-time voice actor and one of the most common questions I get from people who want to work in voice over is How do I make my own demo? So this is the answer. You don’t. Voice acting demos are used to get agents and to book work through agencies and they have very specific specs as well as requirements that 99% of us can’t meet. I say “us” because I’m including myself and other working voice actors in this, we don’t produce our own demos or at least not without help. All of the spots on a demo need to sound like they were literally lifted from existing shows, games, commercials, or whatever genre demo you’re getting produced which means you need an experienced professional who specializes in voice acting demos to produce yours for you. They’re also very labor intensive if they’re good demos which means they’re expensive so you want to make sure you’re really good at voice acting before you get a demo produced, that way it can last you a few years. So if you’re just starting out, use samples instead of a demo to showcase your talent to clients and build up your portfolio with smaller non-agency clients while you’re also still taking voice acting classes until you’re really ready for a demo. Are there always exceptions to this rule as far as what the “proper path to take is” and how people become voice actors? Of course. But personally, I don’t recommend betting on being the exception.
