@pbsnews: Democratic Rep. Greg Casar of Texas criticized Elon Musk and the Trump administration Wednesday for firing inspectors general who were investigating Musk's companies. "When Republicans talk about government efficiency ... they're not looking into billionaires who get rich off of government contracts, they're not looking into Elon Musk firing watchdogs who are supposed to keep him accountable," he said. Inspectors general are independent, nonpartisan watchdogs who are tasked with protecting the agency they oversee against waste, fraud and abuse.Casar's comments came while questioning witnesses during the first hearing of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, or DOGE. The committee was created to support DOGE, a task force led by Musk, who did not attend the hearing, to overhaul the U.S. government and slash federal spending. In the first few weeks of the Trump administration, Musk has been given enormous power as he works to shutter entire agencies in the name of cost cutting.
