@realvegaslocals: This is the most controversial project in Las Vegas right now. 3,000 new homes will be built on top of a toxic, 100 year old mine. This is the infamous Three Kids Mine, or better known as the Wheel of Misfortune. It’s located just four miles from Lake Las Vegas. This mine was used during World War I for manganese mining, producing materials for weapons. But that’s not all it left behind. The soil is loaded with arsenic, lead, and asbestos—deadly contaminants that pose serious health risks. The clean up is happening right now, but it’s too toxic to remove, so the city’s solution is to bury it. Construction workers are covering the site with just 10 feet of “clean” soil and calling it a day. The cost of this massive cleanup is estimated to be between $185 million and $250 million. This is the worst part. Guess who’s paying for this clean up? The future homeowners. Over 45 years, property taxes from these homes will go to cover the bill. Would you buy a home built on a mine filled with hazardous metals?

No one is worried about the toxins seeping into the pipes? People planting fruit trees and eating from them decades from now? The people moving in years from now…Will they know?

Could have just planted hemp on that and harvested it, replant, turn the hemp into bricks and hempcrete Give it a few years and the soil will be clean and build with the bricks etc. Easy.

It’ll be in the smallest print in their seller disclosures or they’ll find a way not to disclose it.
