One of the interesting decisions with Rebels was Thrawn and Tarkin competing for funding for the Death Star and the TIE Advanced fighter. It gave a bit of realism to the series.

Both of them were wrong. Thrawn's control strategy heavily relied on resources. The Empire was stretched too thin, which is why the quality of their military dropped.
