⚠️ Growing up in the hj community, I, as well as several riders were taught to “stay lean”. The goal was to be “less distracting” so the focus was on the horse. And, it was simply an oldschool mentality. HOWEVER, even starting dressage I had several people comment some really gross things. Wether that be in person or online. Many, many times I heard riders discuss how unflattering show clothes are. And I find that to be damaging to younger riders with impressionable minds. Even attending a clinic a couple years ago, the rider was non-stop discussing her body in a very negative manner. Which of course made young me think that if she thought she was overweight, I was probably “obese” in her eyes. So here are some takeaways: 1) thin does NOT equal healthy 2) everyone has a different bodytype, so what’s healthy for you, may not be for someone else 4) you have no right to comment on someone’s body, especially if they’re a minor 5) food is FUEL TED talk over, be respectful. There is so much negative behavior in the horse world, don’t be the reason someone has a bad experience. #equestrian #eqdiet
