Sabbath Nugget #14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. John 1:1-3 1. By Him all things were created. By Him all things are upheld. Romans 1: 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse... 2. The works of God reveal the power of God and the Godhead. 3. Christ is the power of God. (1 Cor 1:24). “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” (Col 2:9) We can see from this that the works of creation show the power and divinity of Jesus. The Sabbath is a memorial of the wonderful works of God in Christ and so it is the great sign of the divinity of Christ. To keep the Sabbath as God appointed it at creation is to acknowledge the divinity of Christ. As we fail to keep the Sabbath of the Lord in spirit and in truth, so we fail to fully recognize the divinity of Christ and to receive the benefit that comes from the fact of His divinity. We see this from the interaction with Christ and the Pharisees who unjustly accused Him and His disciples of breaking the Sabbath when they satisfied their hunger on the Sabbath and when He healed a man on the Sabbath. In responding to them, His final words were: “For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.” (Matt 12:8) This is no small claim. To be Lord of the Sabbath day means that He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth, in fact, Lord of all. Christ Himself declares that He is the Master of the universe. - @amazingdiscoveries
