Why do many humans struggle when it comes to leash walking?⁣ ⁣ Most will blame the dog with the idea that the dog is not good on the leash.⁣ ⁣ In my experience, the reality is that most humans do not have the best leash handling skills, which confuses their dog on what to do on leash.⁣ ⁣ Leash pressure is a very important part of communicating with a dog, and unfortunately, most humans use the leash in a way that intends for one thing but actually communicates to do something else.⁣ ⁣ I explain in the video how leash pressure is commonly done that teaches dogs to pull.⁣ ⁣ Another thing people need to note is the possibility their dog is to pent-up for a walk.⁣ ⁣ Some dogs need to burn energy before a walk with a bike ride, a structured play session, or some other more high-energy exercise.⁣ ⁣ This way, your dog will have burned off pent-up energy and be more prepared for a calm walk, which will give more opportunity to reward.⁣ ⁣ Also, remember that the overall relationship you have with your dog matters when it comes to the walk. ⁣ ⁣ If you behave like a follower most of your dogs life, it won't make sense for them to follow you on a walk no matter how good your leash skills are.⁣ ⁣ Our goal is to get them to willingly follow in a healthy way based on their instincts.⁣ ⁣ Cooper, puppy in the video, was staying with us for our puppy enrichment program. ⁣ ⁣ If you are interested in applying to have your puppy join one of our puppy programs, fill out the form on: www.packleaderdogs.com ⁣ ⁣ We teach all puppies that stay with us about leash pressure and, more importantly, teach the owners how to apply leash pressure to communicate in a healthy way.⁣ ⁣ You can teach leash pressure with any tool.⁣ ⁣ Which one to use with your dog or puppy really depends on the individual dog.⁣ ⁣ I was using one of slip leads with Cooper in this video.⁣ ⁣ The first tool we used was just a flat collar attached to a regular leash.⁣ ⁣ More leash walking videos to come.
