@jbwolff.pm: A dedicated recirculating hot water system is a plumbing setup designed to provide instant hot water at fixtures by continuously circulating heated water through a dedicated return line back to the water heater. Unlike standard systems, where hot water sits in the pipes and cools between uses, this system ensures a constant flow of hot water, eliminating the need to wait for water to heat up. A recirculation pump moves water through the loop, and the system is often controlled by timers, thermostats, or motion sensors to optimize energy efficiency. The primary benefit of a dedicated recirculating system is immediate access to hot water, which enhances convenience and comfort. In homes or buildings with long plumbing runs, waiting for hot water can waste both time and resources. By keeping hot water readily available, users can enjoy faster access to heated water without unnecessary delay, improving daily tasks like showering, cooking, and washing dishes. Additionally, these systems contribute to water and energy conservation. By eliminating the need to run taps while waiting for hot water, they can significantly reduce water waste, which is particularly valuable in areas with water scarcity. Energy efficiency can also be improved when paired with smart controls that activate the system only when needed, reducing unnecessary heating and pump operation. While the initial installation cost is higher than a traditional system, the long-term savings in water and energy bills, along with increased comfort and convenience, make dedicated recirculating hot water systems a valuable investment.#construction #plumbing #waterheater #university #constructionlife #college

Recirculating hot water standard in all hotels I worked on. Gas boiler located in mech room on roof. There are small 6-18 gallon tank 120v water heaters that eliminate 240v that work great.

When are you required to have recirculating hot water? Some engineers miss it during design

In Denver we still use insta hots for commercial projects. I’m curious to see what’s more efficient the insta hot or recirc pump.

added a pump to my system at home and it's a definite game changer. wish I could re pipe for a real recirculating system. the crossover valve is a bit slower.

do you have a background in plumbing? I feel like you're way more knowledgeable in plumbing systems than most construction PM's
