@.igirisu: Being apart of a marginalised demographic as a white liberal doesn’t automatically exempt from being racist because a LOT of you are unconsciously racist toward black and brown people. And I already know somebody’s gonna make an example of themselves in the comments but the statement stands. Experiencing queerphobia, ableism or other forms of oppression that’s indirect to your race will never equate to the continuous, racial discrimination black and brown people face in online spaces and in real life. Hope this helps someone. 🙂
first white liberal I thought of was Madeline Pendleton for some reason 😭

I also like the point out you don’t realize your queer/neurodivergent until later in life. As soon as ur born people r judging you based off ur skin tone so that’s a LONG time of social conditioning

I'm not a liberal (leftist), but as a mayo sapien I can say that one big problem we have that we need to work on is listening. Too often we enter a conversation looking to spread whatever we've learned while forgetting that there is still so much we don't know, so much we need to unpack and examine, to the point that we forget the most important thing we should be doing, which is setting ego aside and listening to marginalized communities without trying to justify or clarify whatever it was that was called out. We forget that we should always be in learning mode when engaging with these communities and that any perceived "attack" is an opportunity to stop, self-examine, and work on changing problematic behaviors/thought patterns.

no, you are absolutely 100000% right. no wrong take here. I've lost so many "friends" for calling them out for hiding behind their "well I'm autistic" excuses for their aggressions.

can confirm. I know I can hide the parts of myself they hate if need be in certain spaces and I still see others who look like me trying so hard to be the loudest victim to excuse their bs.

“White before anything else” - YES!!! Yeah I’m disabled and queer which adds barriers BUT I’m not facing the additional barriers of racial oppression. White liberals forget intersectionality and need to learn when to learn sit down and listen.
