@aviariest: 🔊👺ʻiʻiwis are the most spectacular bird I’ve seen in a long time. They have it all: a brilliant, unique color; goofy specialized beak; and an, umm, interesting singing voice. Oh and if you listen closely as they zip by, you can hear their wings make a fluttering sound! While these guys are not listed as “endangered,” it’s hard not to worry about their future. They only live in remote parts of the Hawaiian islands, and their population has dropped by 90% in recent history. They’re very susceptible to malaria, which was brought to Hawaii by humans, and is probably not going away. Anyway I really hope these amazing birds pull through! Thanks to Mandy from Hawaii Bird Tours for showing me these special creatures! #bird #hawaii #honeycreeper #iiwi
