This is a good tip BUT if you have a newborn be mindful of the type of mattress. Some mattresses have different firmness- 1 side for toddlers and one side for infants!!

My mattress has two sides, one for infant and one for 1 year plus, so make sure that’s not the case for yours! The one year side is slightly more soft.

I can’t bc the other side of my baby’s mattress is softer for toddlers. I just have two waterproof covers and lots of sheets. Also the mattress itself is waterproof if all else fails

I put a waterproof sheet then a potty pad then a normal sheet. When she spits up all I have to do is change the sheet and get a new potty pad down. I did this in the crib and bassinet!
