Tbh this kinda give credits to my Zhongli is the 3rd descender (speculation?) I am skeptical of this one but its kinda there, just speculation so don't be mad... . The 3rd descender as we know is dead and their body is used to create the gnosis, and it is mentioned that they can harness the elements. . How could Zhongli be the 3rd Descender if they're suppose to be dead? Zhongli is shown to be capable of faking his death by leaving his exuvia. Maybe he was overpowered by the 1st and 2nd Descenders that he had no choice but to abandon ship. And may aswell explain why he is living by hopping vessel to vessel... He had to leave his original body, which was then converted into the gnosises. What we know of the 3rd Descender's body is that they can harness all elements without a vision, and we have Zhongli being implied he can use all elements too so maybe his body can... also its kinda shown he may be able to disguise or hide himself, Zhongli didn't recognize Azhdaha being in Kun Jun's body cuz of the decrease of his power... so maybe that's why they didn't recognize him when being bestowed a gnosis (his own remains which is kinda gross to think about...). If this isn't the case then maybe the unknown contract he did before the cataclysm may tie into that. And there's also the unknown contract/exchange with the Tsaritsa... could the exchange equivalence for a gnosis is the Tsaritsa promising to put his original body back together?
