I actually don’t mind that they are being clear about not having a vegan/halal/etc menu. It’s beter than sitting down at a new spot and then realising there’s nothing on the menu that you can eat

I think it's also important to point out that it's not just diet preferences, it's also food allergies. You can ask about your allergen being in the food but the restaurant is not expected to modify

Not sure what you mean by cars won’t stop for pedestrians. It’s so guaranteed that a lot of people won’t even look up and start walking into a crosswalk because they know cars will stop

I'm allergic to seafood, I'm a HUGE fan of all non-seafood Japanese food but now I'm scared to go if it'll be that much of an issue. (obviously I wouldn't walk into a sushi place)

Biggest reason I can’t go to Japan. I have a severe mushroom allergy. So I know my restriction would be hard to work around on a good day! So bummed! Japan looks amazing!!

That last one simply isn't true. I stepped off the plane from Japan yesterday and the cars absolutely stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk without a light. Even in very busy traffic.

Idk where you guys are eating but every place I’ve been to has offered to make dishes without meat when they find out I’m vegetarian 😭 I’ve even had places give me a discount because of it lol

Re pedestrian lanes, we noticed in more than 1 occasion a car would stop to let us cross and they would turn their engines OFF (we hear it). Is this a courtesy / signal for us to cross ?

i got shoved into a train so much that my feet weren't on the ground anymore for a second. it was wild. Also yeah cars were swerving between pedestrians like they weren't even there when i visited.

Didn’t find the US to be pedestrian friendly at all. Japan you need to respect the crossings but they’re no way as aggressive as American drivers.
