@angelicalienspeck: one of my male relatives asked me what i think about black women who straighten their hair or wear long extensions and i said i feel neutral,, and then he tried to press me by saying, “well, it’s obvious their hair is fake. black people cant grow their hair that long.” i was so shocked like why are you saying that ?? i have seen tons of black people whose hair is long naturally ?? but that’s not even the point. it’s just the fact that we, as black folks, feel the need to criticize each other for arbitrary things like this. it’s not inherently euro-centric for a black person to enjoy wearing their hair straightened or wanting to let it grow out to a longer length. it’s not inherently pro-black to criticize black women who wear wigs (which can be used as a protective style …) because you’re simply perpetuating misogynoir !! you’d never say this about any woman BUT a black woman.
