I'm a teacher and we pulled our kid out of daycare for the summer. it was a horrible mistake because we lost the spot. my spouse had to suddenly start WFH

I'm paying more for daycare now because I'll need summer childcare for my school kids & I know we’ll get in over the summer if I keep my youngest at the more $$ school because they take older kids

Access to childcare feels a luxury to the person who doesn't have it but not in the way he's talking about. I've been on waitlists for 18 months now and my career is really taking a hit.

the saying it takes a village to raise a child is spot on, the pressure on 1 sahp is huge and unhealthy. Childcare is what village looks like rights now.

by this logic, the only true 'necessities' are food and water. you can survive without a place to live (homeless people do) and clothes is only necessary if living in a cold climate.

I like Ramit. And thank you for this different perspective. I would not have listened to this and thought differently without it.

When my kids were little childcare spots were prioritised for working parents, there weren’t enough spots available for those looking for work/studying. This kept me stagnant in my career 🥺

My husband was laid off, we pulled our 2 yr old daughter from the sitter. He managed to un potty train her bc it was “too hard to remember to take her potty.” He went back to work, I became a SAHM

I don't even know what to say... Confused in European. How can there be people that don't understand this? How much has propaganda in the states messed up peoples views?

This is why we won't have kids anymore.
Women should be given a lifetime pension for having kids.

The search being "childcare isnt a real job" is WILD. 99% of childcare employees are women with women owned businesses. They continue to be the lowest paid sector in Canada 🙈

First: it's child care, not daycare. Second, giving up your licensed child care space, capped at $22 (under 6yrs) in Ontario is just an irresponsible financial decision.

I don't see it as a luxury or investment. It's a necessity. It's an expense. Is running water a luxury? Power? Phone? We need these things in order to work, and work so we can pay for them. 😵💫

Ramit thinks he's an expert in literally all finances when he ALWAYS has the most privileged, male centric responses. He's starting to become a watered down Dave Ramsey in this way

Daycare is also an investment in the social and general development of your children.

Getting laid off does not mean you don't have a job. You have one very specific job: find a new job. That is a full time position and requires daycare.

Having money to invest is itself a luxury a lot of people don’t have.
