The central bank system was created out of greed and control. but it allowed for the industrial Revolution to globally scale, ushering in modern society, one major side effect of that system was that the massive liquidity created through debt-based money and fractional reserve lending made large-scale industrialization possible. A rigid gold standard simply couldn't have provided the credit needed to fund factories, railroads, and explosive economic growth at that pace. So while the motives behind it were selfish, the system did deliver modernization and rapid industrial development, even as it turned most people into modern-day peasants, constantly working just to pay bills and service interest on money created out of nothing.
