I never thought I would encounter an “annual” plant in my garden that took longer than peppers, but loofah has taken the crown. For those at this phase in colder zones - I would suggest you harvest yours and dry yours in the oven, and odds are good some of these will eventually need that too. Here in Zone 10A (Southern California) we don’t really get a true frost, so while these plants will certainly slow down they won’t die off and as such I am hopefully I’ll get at least 20 or so good gourds. Next year I full intend to start my loofah in early spring, because they take an eternity 😂. They are fully worth it, and even if all 30 of these grow to full size and turn brown they will all be spoken for very soon, so I will be doubling the number of plants I grow.
