Sitting at a console near the patient, Dr. Gillinov performs the procedure by controlling the machine’s robotic arms, which have surgical tools attached to them. He’s also able to see an enhanced and magnified view of the surgical area looking into the console via high-definition cameras. Only requiring a few small incisions, the benefits of robotic surgery may include faster healing and shorter recovery times for patients.
