@nepalese_repubican: The tension between the palace (monarchy) and the people (often represented by political movements, rebellions, and democratic aspirations) has been a defining feature of Nepal’s historical trajectory. From the early Shah dynasty consolidation under Prithvi Narayan Shah to the rise of the Rana autocracy (1846–1951), the struggle was largely between different ruling elites. However, after the 1951 democratic revolution ended Rana rule, the conflict shifted toward a more direct struggle between the monarchy and the people’s democratic aspirations. The 1990 People’s Movement (Jana Andolan I) forced King Birendra to establish a constitutional monarchy, but the 2006 People’s Movement (Jana Andolan II) finally abolished the monarchy under King Gyanendra, leading to Nepal becoming a federal democratic republic in 2008. #nepaleserepublican #nepal #History
