A cat can scratch horizontally or vertically or both. When u know which way it makes it easier to provide the form they prefer. Mine scratch horizontally only so carpet style scratcher it is.

maybe not sturdy enough - can you tighten it and secure it to the ground? cats don’t trust it - wobbles a lot
