FOOTWEAR IN ANCIENT EGYPT. Footwear had a special meaning for the Egyptians. The material from which the footwear was made indicated the wealth of the owner. Sandals were already known from the Old Kingdom, but were used above all from the New Kingdom. The design was simple, with a flat sole plus a strip coming out between the toes and two more placed around the ankle. Most people make their own shoes. The sandals of senior officials were made of leather, the sole had two strips that came out of the ankle and joined on the instep with another that passed between the toes. Leather sandals are already documented from the ancient Kingdom, but only for wealthy people, since it was not a common material. The banks of the Nile were rich in rushes and plants which formed the basis for the manufacture of furniture and footwear. The less well-off people made their own sandals with strips made of papyrus and straw: starting from woven strips and rushes they made footwear. In the grave goods of every Egyptian there were clothes and shoes. The pharaohs, in their funerary equipment, had sandals of gold, which were ritual, and of leather, with the nine arches painted on the sole as a symbol of power. Starting from the Ptolemaic Period, golden sandals were depicted at the foot of the sarcophagus for the deceased. ➖➖ 𓋹𓁈𓄇𓋖𓂀𓅃𓋹𓅔➖➖ #thisisegypt #everydayegypt #ancientegypt  #visitegypt  #egyptshots  #amazingegypt #travelegypt  #experienceegypt  #Temple #pharaohs #ancientcity  #ancientart #Egypt #Alexandria #cairo #luxor #kemet #egyptology #hatshepsut #karnak #cairo #Egyptiangods  #mummy #photooftheday #beautiful #photographer #explore #Love #the_holy_egypt
