Replying to @ThisIsaGoodIdea Read caption ‼️ For myself, it took me a long time to feel like I belonged in my culture, despite being a status holder, surrounded by my Native family and a Robsinson huron beneficiary. I am a white woman(I mean, look at me lol) so these comments are not offensive, however, two things can exist at the same time. I am still mixed race and an Indigenous person. And although this person isnt wrong that I am ‘white’, what they meant was they practice colonization and attempted to erase my culture and families background. I am aware of the privilege that comes with being white and mixed. I can say comfortably now, comments like this do not make me shameful of being mixed and obviously I wont just dip out on culture because some random on the internet told me to lol but I do understand the damage they could do to reconnecting Native people who have not yet found their way and read my comment sections, it happens every day. I want to remind people that tiktok comments are generally NOT the same as in real life. I have felt nothing but love, kindness and community on the powwow trail and attending ceremonies. I have met a lot of incredible people who understand Indigenous people come from all sorts of backgrounds. I mean this for all Indigenous people: afro Indigenous, white, light skinned, reconnecting indigenous people, there IS a place for you and do not let comments discourage you. I come from residential and Indian day school survivors and a long line of Indigenous people. Go to the ceremony, dance at the powwow, make friends, I promise you, there is a community waiting for you, and that reconnection means everything. 🪶🦅❤️ #nativetiktok#fypシ゚viral#indigenous#foryourpage#2024#firstnation#nativeamerican#finnish#canada#native#ndn#ojibwe#mixedrace#mixed#follow
