Social media is killing you. On average, teens spend 8 HOURS A DAY ON SOCIAL MEDIA, that’s a THIRD of your life. We don’t go to places to enjoy the experience anymore, we go to post it. It’s like a competition between who can create the best highlight reel. We live in a society where ppl have a good time by showing others they’re having a good time. But the people who are at peace with themselves don’t care about showing other people their lives because they’re too busy living it. Depression and suicide rates are at an all-time high and part of that is because of the way social media is changing your brain. It’s a drug and when you scroll you get stimulated w so much dopamine, and when you go back to reality everything seems so dull. When you scroll you always see people’s lives as “happy” and “perfect” and you become programmed to believe that’s the way your life is supposed to look like, all the TIME. Which is... So toxic, because you’re comparing your everyday life to people’s highlight REELS. And the reality is none of us are happy all the time. I’ve wanted to end my life before and I’m addicted to driving really fast. But all you see is happy smiles on my feed because social media only shows you what I WANT you to see. It’s like your making a sims character, you pick and choose the qualities you want the world to see, which is so fucking fake, none of this shit is real stop comparing yourself to it. You’re gonna die one day, and once your dead, your dead forever, stop wasting your life staring at a screen.
