Valeria said she had grabbed her daughter from tutoring. Now they headed to daycare for her son. She swore she dodged a pothole. But cops later saw she hit a rock by a driveway. That smashed her front end. Patrolman Christopher Capuzzo showed up next. He watched her fumble for papers. Then they smelled booze on her breath. They had her do sobriety tests. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus check. Capuzzo spotted jerky eyes at the edges. Nystagmus kicked in too soon, before 45 degrees. Even vertical shakes appeared.
