Examples of cheesing:
Tricking enemies into falling into lift shafts
Kicking enemies off battlements

MI born and raised, we used cheesing here too. I always imagined it came from like 'cheesy' meaning an easy to do/but lame and not in the spirit of thr game strategy. Like puns get EZ laughs but are

reminds me of watching Hi-Score Girl anime and watching where a bunch of FG etiquette rose from.
I kind of want to show the kids I learn martial arts with FG because a lot of MA ideas make sense

one of the street fighter games would put a cheese icon for your win marker if the game thought you used only a few moves. it might be old but I thought it was universal.

I'm in my mid 20's and game frequently. Cheesing is still very much a thing. The way I usually see it used is when someone traps a boss in a corner and spams a poison item from a ledge or something

Northern Canada here, cheese in reference to competition means exploiting an unfair method to win.

I still use cheesing in the same way, but maybe I’m just getting old since I’m in my 30’s now 💀

Still definitely gamer jargon. I am not ashamed to say that cheesing helped me beat Elden Ring. 😎

No I remember at the arcade I used to frequent that was the term, but that was also in Southern California and the SFV no less.

I have never heard that term in that way and I've definitely been a gamer since the 80s but that was pretty much only pc gaming so maybe it's a console gamer term?

I looked up "destiny tormentor" today for a dreadnought boss and the first suggestion was "destiny tormentor cheese" so I think you're good

Primal Rage would actually stop you from cheesing and flash a circle slash cheese picture over your fighter’s head if you tried to use the same move iirc more than 3X

socal also, also in my 30s, but yeah. cheesing is taking advantage of a bad mechanic in a gamebreaking way.

Kids today probably wouldn’t understand complaints of screen watching either. Days of 4v4, system link games are long gone. Same with couch co op. Everyone needs their own copy/subscriptions

Cheesing wasn't really used for "cheating" so much as exploiting (narrow difference, I know) and I still heard it in use as recently as playing Destiny 2

Also grew up in SoCal in the 80s and 90s. My social circle called it “cheaping,” because it wasn’t cheating per se, but it was a cheap way to win.
