What people forget is that if you are not autistic then the spectrum doesn’t apply to you. You’re in a seperate box off to the side. If you’re autitistic then yes the spectrum applies to you

I feel the Au part being less understood than the ADHD. Like, people telling you, ah you are not autistic or not validating your experiences because for them is not true. How to manage this?

In your opinion is dyslexia or adhd on the spectrum? Or different spectrum?

I always like to say, everyone can have symptoms of being pregnant ie nauseous, tenderness but we aren’t all pregnant. You either are or you aren’t, there’s not a little bit pregnant lol It’s one of my biggest peeves, especially from health professionals or school teachers how say it without zero understanding. 🫠

Maybe controversial, but I think it’s just HUMANS. We are allllll so different and express a huge range of behaviours- they sold us a lie a LONG time ago that there was a thing called NORMAL. There is no such thing. It’s their box they want everyone to fit into but we don’t, bc humans are simply beings that are different.

Do you think people are being diagnosed or are self-diagnosing when they aren't on the spectrum, based on certain characteristics?

I feel like people these days so many videos on these traits they adapt them and then think they have these diagnostic criteria but it’s actually just subconsciously imbedded into their mind

I think people get confused and say 'everyone is on the spectrum' or 'everyone is a little Autistic' where really, yes everyone can have traits but doesn't mean you are on the spectrum.

What I struggle with is that the current DSM diagnostic criteria are very rigid. Which means that you can get children who have a range of autistic traits, who don’t meet the criteria for …1/2

My daughter was just diagnosed and I am getting so annoyed with people saying “she doesn’t seem autistic” meanwhile I’ve been dealing with all these things that people aren’t around enough to see

I always imagine it like there is 1000 traits and each Autistic person has a mixture of some of them at a different rate, if that makes sense?

I would personally prefer to call it an array. I think people would be less confused if they conceptualised an array of symptoms instead. People don't really understand spectrums enough.

It’s the first time that someone is saying out loud my thoughts! ❤️It’s something I get a lot “everybody is a little bit ADHD” no darling, just because you are a little bit messy, you are not adhd🙄

it's the neurodiversity spectrum. I have high functioning adhd with brain damage so my symptoms are more harder to control at times.

Context. Many people in population are undiagnosed on spectrum. They are the level 1 asds. Milder. They've blended in fine.

The autism spectrum is a circular continuum. If you are autistic you are on the spectrum. If you're not autistic you're not on the spectrum.

An autistic persons brain scan lights up entirely differently to an ADHD person and both of which light up entirely differently than a neurotypical person

My son is 6 and has recently been diagnosed. He’s stimming is repeating words. Oh my God it is so frustrating but I know that it’s helping him regulate. But it is making me overstimulated. SAH fun
