@govmannypinol: Turning Vast Tribal Domains Into Food Production Areas With Sorghum as the primary crop, I am introducing the Integrated Farming System to the Indigenous People of my province to turn their vast Ancestral Domains into Food Production Areas. Sorghum, a grains crop which is drought resilient with a higher protein content than Corn, is being introduced by a small company, Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures, Inc., which I and Senator Ping Lacson, along with some friends, formed two years ago. While the adoption of the crop by farmers has not reached the desired level, its introduction in the Ancestral Domain Areas could start other agricultural activities like Free-Range Chicken Farming, Goat Raising and Sheep Farming. Last week, I joined the leaders of the Manobo Tinananon tribe in a ceremonial planting of Sorghum in a 200-hectare Ancestral Domain in Mt. Saag, Dallag, Arakan town near the boundary of North Cotabato with Davao City. A total of 1,000 hectares of Ancestral Lands had been identified as the expansion area of the program. Under the program, SAAVI provides the technical support, seeds, fertilizer, farm inputs and labor costs which will be deducted from the earnings of the farm when SAAVi buys back the Tribal Farmers produce. Using their traditional Zero Tillage farming system or "Tudak," the tribal farmers actually no longer need to spend for land preparation. Another benefit from Sorghum is its Ratooning characteristic which allows farmers to harvest at least twice with just one planting. #HelpingTribalPeople! #KungGustoMaramingParaan!
