Bandage application on your pets may seem easy and straight forward but it’s more complicated than you think!!! 👩‍⚕️ If too loose or not sticky enough it falls off! 😰 If too tight it can construct the limb and cause tissue damage, foot swelling and serious injury to the pet. 🚨 I always advise my patients to simply come back in every week for a recheck and a new bandage application to prevent complications! However, if an owner wants to apply the bandage themselves, which happens more often than you’d think, I simply lecture them on what can happen and emphasize to put a lighter bandage when in doubt & to check it daily! ☑️ Check for: paw 🐾 swelling below and limb swelling above which means the bandage is too tight and causing your pet harm! ☑️ Check for skin irritation, blood or pus coming from the bandage! If a bandage isn’t changed regularly, and a wound underneath gets moisture or is not healing it can become more infected.
