@bestwallethacks: Ecobee smart thermostats have a feature known as Smart Recovery, which "helps your home reach a comfortable temperature at the right time. It uses a learning algorithm to predict how long it will take to heat or cool your home." Smart Recovery is ecobee's name for what is commonly referred to as Adaptive recovery or Intelligent Recovery. Practically, this means that it will turn on your heat system or air conditioning BEFORE your scheduled time. If you set your heat to go to 65 degrees at 2pm, it will start heating your home BEFORE 2pm. Sometimes well before 2pm. I understand the appeal of this feature but I didn't know it was doing this so I set my heat on for earlier than I needed it. I only discovered this when I linked my thermostat data to a free service that showed me what it was doing in pretty charts. My boiler was kicking only several times a night (and costing me a lot of money) in anticipation of heating up for the morning. Check your smart thermostats for this feature and decide whether you want it on or off (and how it'll affect your schedules) and save yourself some money. #savemoney
