I Disagree largely. I felt guilt when I had a stillborn baby at 20 weeks. Nothing I did was out of align with my values and I wasn't trying to please anyone in that moment. BUT I definitely felt guilt

This is one way that toxic personalities use others to regulate their emotions...through emotional blackmail. Knowing your values and improving emotional intelligence and regulation can protect you.

this might be true if you had great parents that taught you how to be ethical and virtuous. But if you've been ignored, invalidated, abused etc. you can feel guilty for asking for the littlest thing

Guilt is a heavy weight to carry. Knowing when to let it go is real freedom.

I went through this. I absorbed all of my clients pain and trauma and it stayed in my body. I couldn’t let it go. I wanted to help them. My body was in so much PAIN!!!!!

to take this one step further- imo that's why sometimes guilt is a sign that you need to realign those values because they aren't actually your values..

Dr. Vincent Barbieri :
Imo they are both guilt, one is just born out of an inflated sense of responsibility caused by a parent not taking enough accountability
