Our 10 week old started howling in the crate at bedtime. It’s next to us on the bed, putting my hand in used to calm him but doesn’t anymore. What do we do? We don’t want him to practice distress in the crate. We’ve gone through the puppy routine so he doesn’t need anything, he just wants to be with us.

Put crate right next to bedside and if they wake then take them out. If they don’t wake, then don’t wake a sleeping baby. No need to set an alarm.

If you use the fresh patch in the early stages of training how can you move away from using this? Is the idea they’ll treat grass outside the same way automatically when ready? x

When you take your puppy out of the crate during the night, do you give them treats when they go? And then do you just put them back in the crate when you go inside?
