@therapistinrecovery: This is some of my best advice for all my anxiety and OCD folks. This also works with depression, trauma, or any other disorders that affect your mind and thoughts. We have to start creating corrective experiences for our brain so it can rewire in our favor and here is such a simple way to do it. #ocd #ocdawareness #ocdtok #ocdrecovery #anxietytok #anxietycheck #anxietydepression #anxietyrelief #dbt #act #acceptanceandcommitmenttherapy #erp #dialecticalbehavioraltherapy #exposureresponseprevention #traumahealing #traumarecovery #anxietytiktok #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #intrusivethoughtscheck #spiraling #overthinkingeverything #freetherapy #therapistadvice #therapistsontiktok
I’m guilty of trying to google things to make it better, and what I find on google makes it all worse.

I can’t stop my brain though. Even if i know what I’m thinking is unrealistic and It’s not reality no reason to be scared I still have the thought screaming at me

Honestly I went into this thinking that there is no way you were going to say something that I could do, it was going to be silly or basic breathing techniques or positive self talk, all things I’ve tried, but now I’m like, oh do the hard thing, challenge the thought and be vulnerable. Ouch but I see how it could be effective

The problem is the story I tell myself is NEVER an example people give which makes me think my OCD is something worse:( so frustrating and exhausting

How do we address #3 in a way that doesn’t give way to compulsions? Ex: reassurance-seeking as a compulsion

how would that work? i’m at the start of my OCD recovery and all i’m seeing everywhere is that trying to prove your OCD wrong is a compulsion and we should embrace uncertainty instead.

Sooo this isn’t a compulsion? The thing w my OCD is that when I start thinking positive it’s like “hey you have ocd you can’t think positive” and it’s like a game of tug of war and 50/50 chance for us

If I could catch myself, I could usually stop myself from spiralling further, but I don’t know how to even catch it before I start

Wait but with ocd shouldn’t we be not engaging with the thought at all

May I ask you to make a video sometime about the theme of ocd that consists of a fear of developing mental disorders? I don’t know if you’ve already done that. Thank you in advance 🫶🏻

I needed this so much today. I just got a cat and I have been beating myself up that I can’t handle it or I’m meant to live alone or I am not cut out to be a pet parent

and once you're aware of that, you can get the overthinking under control. as far as knowing that these things that you're thinking are not true, because why in the heck would you even think that's something your brain is thinking is not true, right?😏
