If your hospital doesn’t value DEI, I don’t value your job offer. ✌🏾 When I was a pre-med and even in med school, I had no idea how healthcare really worked. Like most students, I was just focused on learning, training, and genuinely helping people. I thought that if you worked hard, did right by your patients, and stayed dedicated, that would be enough. Then I graduated. Got into the real world. And whew, my eyes were opened. I saw how medicine operates in a capitalistic system where not all patients are treated equally. I saw how diversity, equity, and inclusion aren’t just buzzwords—they directly impact the quality of care, the workplace culture, and whether doctors from marginalized backgrounds feel supported or isolated. And let’s be real—there are some MAJOR red flags that a hospital does not value DEI: 🚩 Limited diversity in leadership and staff—if everyone making decisions looks the same, that’s a problem. 🚩 No real DEI initiatives or policies—just a once-a-year email about “diversity.” 🚩 Lack of unconscious bias training—because ignoring disparities won’t make them go away. 🚩 A poor track record of addressing discrimination—aka, they protect the problem, not the people harmed. And of course, the internet trolls love to pop up like: “Well, I wouldn’t wanna come to your DEI hospital anyway!!” …and that’s cute🙄, because a DEI-focused hospital is actually a strength for both staff and patients. ✅ Diverse teams = Culturally competent, higher-quality care. ✅ Inclusive workplaces = Higher retention & less burnout. ✅ Equitable policies = Better outcomes for ALL patients. So yeah, keep your regressive hospital. I’ll be over here where the culture is thriving and the patients are winning. #DEI #DiversityInMedicine #EmergencyMedicine #medicine #medschool #medstudent #physician #blackphysician #blackdoctorsmatter #doctor #explore #foryou
