During the design stages of this piece I seriously struggled with a block. I actually had three other pieces of wood I kept switching between, unsure of which piece I wanted to use, and truly had no idea what I wanted to make. I think every artist will come to a point where they ask themselves, am I making this for other people, or am I making it because I want to? This was the source of that block for me. I found myself constantly questioning whether people will like it, whether it's too similar to other pieces I've made, or maybe it won't even hold a candle to some of the pieces I've created lately. This all stopped me from being able to get into a flow state and put my soul into my next artwork. When I'm feeling this way it's best to just take a step away, get outside, and reconnect with the things that inspire me. On my walk I was met with the moon hanging ahead of me, the clouds reflecting the setting sun in a deep orange against a violet dawn sky. I felt that spark come back and I immediately picked up the pace so I could get home faster because I need to write my ideas down (Alfie was not pleased). The next morning was a productive one and I finally had the sketch down for this project. My motivation still fluctuates, I won't deny it, but im able to put all of me into this piece and new ideas have been coming in when I drop all the expectations. All of this to simply say, I struggle too with ideas and inspiration and and self expectations and that's okay, it's just apart of being an artist.
