@compass.acres: I’m not anti seed starting, let me explain 👇🏼 Starting flowers from seed sounds like a budget-friendly idea… until you realize it only saves money if the plants actually grow! When I first got a seed catalog I went BANANAS and just bought everything because I thought I was saving SO much money! Well not only did a lot of those seeds not make it, I had to spend extra money on annuals at the greenhouse so I could have the flowers that didn’t grow 😅 Before diving in, here are three things to think about: 1️⃣ Do you have the right setup? Many seeds need grow lights, heat mats, and plenty of space before they’re ready for the garden. 2️⃣ Are you patient? Some flowers take weeks (or even months!) to sprout, and not all of them will make it to bloom or the hardening off process. 3️⃣ Will it actually save you money? If you only need a few plants, buying seedlings might be the smarter (and easier) option. I have come to learn myself as a gardener, and it turns out, I’m not super patient so I know direct sowing and buying annuals from the greenhouse work best! The seeds I KNOW can withstand my attention span get started and they are marigolds. Seed starting can be super rewarding, but it’s only worth it if you set yourself up for success! 🌿 Have you tried growing flowers from seed? Tell me your best (or worst) experiences in the comments! 👇 #compassacres #flowersmakemehappy #gardencoach #gardening #gardendesign #seedstarting

Marigolds and most flowers grow better from direct sowing

Well. $1500 greenhouse, soil and all the set up…surely I will never recoup my 2200 investment 😂 but my mental health is better 🤣

I direct sew seeds in their specific season, 9/10 they take and then I collect seeds for future. Definitely saves me money but I also live in zone 9b so may be easier here than elsewhere.

We don’t do flowers from seed here. Every year we pick one flower to attempt. Can’t figure it out. Veggies though we go them!

My local nursery sells their tomatoes for $1 after they need all the inventory gone! Plus tomatoes in Texas grow deep into the November and December months even!😅They look better than mine do!

Even when they do it isn't super cost effective lol I do it so I can try more variety than I can buy as starts! Also it's hard to find Spring garden starts near me.

I direct sew my merigold seeds every year & they get sooo big! They’re really a low maintenance flower. The seeds I take from the flowers at the end of each season & that’s what I plant the following year. I lay down an inch of potting soil, sprinkle the seeds & lightly cover again with soil, water & walk away! lol it’s when I’ve bought plants, that I can seem to keep them alive. Haha

I actually cannot grow one marigold from seed to save my life so yes buying plugs is sometimes smarter 😁 don’t get me started on lisianthus.

How do you keep the weeds down? When you plant seeds along a walk way like this?

I love growing from seed. You just need the correct conditions for germination. Always read the seed packet 😂. I had some beautiful marigolds from seed last year
