As an African-American I can trace my ancestry to before America became a country in 1776. I have African, European and Native-American ancestry like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (read the words of the rare Nike MLK, Jr. shoe-print print of mine that inspires us to walk no matter what shoes we wear), so America is me! Dr. King led thousands to march for Freedom from Selma 54 miles to Montgomery, Alabama in 1965. When we walk let us do it like Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech stated: “We Cannot Walk Alone”. Equality is what Dr. King marched for and what we still strive to realize today. I also want to share some Nike and Air Jordan gear from my collection: shirts, hoodies, coat inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Black History Month, a couple rare pairs of LeBron 15 and few pairs of my Nike and Air Jordan shoes that celebrate Black History Month. My all-time favorite shoes are: 1. Nike Air Max 95, 2. Air Jordan 3, 3. Nike Air Force 1. My all-time favorite writers are Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou who I make sure my high school students know about. During Black History Month my students are reading Maya Angelou’s autobiographical novel I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. I will always love Maya Angelou because of the amazing life she lived. I was blessed when she held my hand and prayed for me after I gave her a poem I wrote titled “MaYa ANGELou” (My Angel) when I was 19 years old.
