my kid has asked me to put beads and braids in her hair like her friends at school 😭 asked when her tan will come in and has said she wants "cloud hair" like her cousin.. full meltdowns each time

I remember loving the black girls braids and baubles, the beads in their hair and I was SOOOOOO sad I couldn’t have the cute twists with all the baubles at the end, or the clicky clacky beads.

I'm so glad that wasn't just a me thing. I cried for 2 days when I learned I could never look like my best friend and also couldn't have braids like hers. I prayed to God to change that. he didn't.

my best friends as a kid (age 4-5) were two black girls and a Mexican girl. they were SO nice, one of the black girls had little butterfly beads in her hair and I loved them

My first best friend was black. Our moms would get us matching outfits and her mom would give us same hairstyles & couldn't tell us we weren't twins. We'd try to "trade places" and trick our moms 🤣
