pdf is a good idea but they make it so annoying to work with it, you shouldnt need 4 programs to edit and read them

The worst is, that we are stuck with it due to MS and their terrible Word product, because of their horrid rendering of Word documents amd how it changes from device to device.

I pray that sooner or later, HTML fully replaces PDF. PDF is just copying everything from HTML, but in a different, incompatible, insecure way.

PDF = Portable Document Format. The reason there are so many embedding options is because its primary goal was to be platform-agnostic and completely portable. This was a big deal in the 90s.

There should be a subset of the PDF specification and label it something like PDF-S and if you can choose to only open PDF-S files to guard yourself against malware
