BLUF: I've found a network of Facebook pages run by a Chinese company that is buying Facebook ads in which they indicate that they will donate proceeds from all sales to both the Trump and Harris campaigns. Some pages are pretending to be run by unemployed veterans, begging for charity. Content and merchandise being sold includes calls for the 💀 of Harris, Walz, and Biden. Background: In 2019 I published The Troll Report, a nearly 200-page document explaining the 10 different ways that foreign adversaries target troops, veterans, and our families online. In that report I unveiled election interference by foreign entities targeting the 2020 election. Since then my research has followed the natural pipeline from mis/disinfo to radicalization and extremism. I now run Task Force Butler, a 501c3 that trains veterans in OSINT to hold extremists legally accountable. Since we were founded two years ago, our work has resulted in several convictions and successful lawsuits against domestic extremists. Explainer: This Google Doc contains documentation of the network of Facebook Pages that I'm finding that are run by the Chinese "广州时维网络科技有限公司" company. (Google translates this to "Guangzhou Shiwei Network Technology Co., Ltd."). There are over 32 pages in this network selling Harris/Walz and Trump/Vance branded merchandise, with posts promising to donate all proceeds "to the cause" (when referencing Trump), "to the H & W campaign," or "to ActBlue." Some pages are also buying ads in which they’re purporting to be unemployed veterans (just in time for Veterans Day). At least one of these pages (Restvivid.shop) is both buying Facebook ads calling for 💀 and purporting to be veterans, while also saying they’ll donate to support Trump’s campaign. Federal law prohibits contributions, donations, expenditures (including independent expenditures) and disbursements solicited, directed, received or made directly or indirectly by or from foreign nationals in connection with any federal, state or local election. (FEC guidance here.) There are two possible scenarios here: this foreign company is making illegal campaign donations; or this foreign company is fraudulently advertising that it will make (illegal) campaign donations and then keeping the money. According to the "Transparency" tabs on each Facebook Page, this network utilizes administrators in the United States, China, Russia, Iran, Malaysia, France, Indonesia, the UAE, Thailand, Philippines, and Australia. Several administrators are listed as being in "unknown" countries. According to the Ad Library, many of these pages have posted ads on Facebook that are "about social issues, elections or politics," with a few of them having several strikes for posting the ads without the required disclaimer. Some of the ads they've used have made the promises above, to support these candidates. Some of these pages have switched back and forth between supporting Harris and Trump. This includes posting divisive and demeaning content, primarily aimed against Harris and Walz, and with some veiled calls for the a*********** of both Biden and Harris. The Trump-branded merchandise they’re selling includes coded calls for 🗡️, saying that “It’s time to take Harris to the train station.” The train station reference was first used by white s*********** as a nod to how J**** were rounded up during the H*********, but became a much more mainstream and non-anti-J***** reference to 💀 because of a scene in the series Yellowstone. Update: as of October 18 they’ve also shifted into buying ads saying they’d donate to hurricane relief for NC and FL. #CapCut
